Malaysians will have to pay more for cigarettes starting early November. This is due to an increase in taxes under Regulation 8A of the Tobacco Revenue Control Regulations 2004.  Selling of cigarettes to persons under the age of 18 has been forbidden since May 14, 1994. Malaysia became a Party to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control on December 15, 2005.
